We have an exciting opportunity for a Housing Engagement Officer in the Housing & Community Team, within the General Environmental Health Service.

The post is part funded by Welsh Government for the primary purpose of preventing homelessness and supporting people to have the capability, independence, skills and confidence to access and/or maintain a stable and suitable home.  

This post will enable the Council to positively improve access to good quality homes in the Private Rented sector to increase housing provision for homelessness.  

Working within the Housing and Community Team, you will have the opportunity to undertake a range of challenging enforcement and preventative interventions that stem from the investigation of complaints regarding Private Rented Housing Standards.

The main duties of the post; 

• Inspecting residential premises
• Providing advice to landlords and tenants
• Maintaining records, registers and data and assisting with compiling statistical returns
• Investigating complaints about Housing Conditions.
• Preparing reports and witness statements
• Undertaking investigations and securing evidence
• Issuing legal proceedings and serving legal Notices
• Undertaking prosecutions

You will have experience in/of;

• Experience of mediation and negotiation with tenants and landlords to maintain tenancies and improve housing standards.
• Experience of working in an enforcement service would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of construction techniques and common housing defects in the rented sector.

Ideally you will have;

• Hold a relevant qualification at HNC, Diploma or a higher accredited BSc/MSc degree in Housing or Environmental Health or a construction science (eg Building Studies) or Health and Safety (e.g NEBOSH Diploma).
