We are seeking a motivated and skilled Assistant Drainage Officer to join the Highway & Drainage Services section. This is a permanent, full-time role based at The Quays, Baglan, offering a competitive salary of £33,699 to £37,280 per annum (Grade 7), with a 37-hour working week.
In this role, you will lead investigations into drainage and surface water flooding in line with the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. You will be responsible for managing and analysing data using GIS systems to maintain the Flood Risk and Drainage Asset Register, supervising minor engineering works, and overseeing two site survey staff. You will also support the delivery of drainage capital and revenue programmes, contribute to the Flood Risk Management Strategy and Plan, and liaise with internal teams, councillors, and the public to resolve drainage issues effectively and professionally.
We are looking for candidates with a Level 4 qualification in Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. You should have a strong understanding of drainage legislation and maintenance practices, excellent communication and IT skills, and the ability to work independently and navigate challenging terrain. A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout the County Borough are essential.
